Night Out Against Crime- Kick-Off August 2nd

From City Press Release dated: May 29, 2011

It’s Time for 2012 National Night Out Against Crime
A party with a purpose

Hattiesburg– The City of Hattiesburg is prepping for it’s 2012 National Night Out Against Crime festivities. The kick-off is set for Thursday, Aug. 2 at 5:30 p.m., with a rally on the steps of City Hall followed by a march to Town Square Park. There, participants will enjoy an evening of doorbusters, contests, great food, educational exhibitors, health screenings, plus opportunities to learn more about National Night Out (NNO) -a nationwide crime, drug and violence prevention program. Print NNO Flyer

Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch  and TARGET, and locally by the City of Hattiesburg and Forrest County, NNO  provides a unique opportunity for the City to join forces with thousands of other communities across the country in promoting crime prevention efforts. Police-community partnerships, neighborhood safety, awareness and cooperation are important themes of NNO. This year’s celebration will include a salute to our military veterans.

“We really wanted to take this opportunity to honor the men and women who willingly sacrificed their lives for the freedoms that we all enjoy,” said Maxine Coleman, City of Hattiesburg National Night Out Coordinator. “They are our heroes, and heroes deserve to be cherished.”

On Tuesday, Aug. 7 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., celebrations will take place across the nation in honor of “America’s Night Out.” This is a time when businesses and residents partner to host memorable, block-parties and activities within their communities to foster neighbor-to-neighbor relationships, which have proven to reduce the crime rate. To register your NNO event, please contact 601.554.1005.
